Adding another driver in the house
Anna spent the day at Driving School – 9 hours of sitting, listening, and testing about operating motor vehicles. When asked if it was really boring and long, she said “it went really fast”.
Linda and I find this style of drivers education a little foreign as we were trained in the public school system as young high schoolers. I remember spending a whole semester going to class and practicing driving with a device that looks a lot like high-tech driving simulator video games at Chuck E Cheese. Additionally, I went out and practiced in small groups with the instructor in the passenger seat with a chicken brake and another steering wheel.
Nowadays – we spend lots of money to have our kid cram everything into one day. What about all the driving experience? There will be 3 driving experiences with the instructor at some point in the future. But, between now and the third experience, Anna has to drive a total of 50 hours – 10 of which must be at night.
Guess who’s going to get some driving time…

Dance recital 2012
Tonight was the 2012 dance recital for Anna and Emily. This year has been a big one for them as they took their tap, ballet, and pointe ballet to a higher level.
Most importantly, the girls had a change in dance teacher halfway through the year because their original teacher, Miss Nina, required open-heart surgery. Luckily, Miss Nina’s daughter, Miss Vicki, was able to step in and continue the classes.
Miss Nina is doing well and recovering, but has only been able to supervise from a chair. All of the kids and adults in “Miss Nina’s Dancing Darlings” did a fabulous job tonight. Below is Miss Nina with her son and also her daughter, Miss Vicki.
There were also a couple cute dances performed by the little kids – this is how little Anna and Emily were when they started about 10 years ago.
Piano Recital
The big musical weekend was capped with Linda’s studio piano recital. Anna and Emily played and did a wonderful job. Emily played Kabalevsky’s Five Variations on a Russian Folk Song Op 50, No 1 (mistakenly attributed to Latour in the video). Anna played Streabbog’s A Sad Story Op 63, No 12.
You can see more pictures of each of the students playing by looking at the top of the page under the top menu and mouse over “Piano Studio”. Click on the “Piano Recital April 2010” menu option.
Sacrament of Confirmation
This past weekend, Anna joined 68 other 8th graders from our church in the sacrament of Confirmation. This sacrament is the entrance of the young person into the Church as an adult. Her Confirmation sponsor was her grandmother, Carlene.
Pictured above is Abbot Barnabas Senecal (he presided over the Mass and administered the sacrament to each of the candidates), Father Tony Lickteig, Anna, Carlene, and Father Rick Storey.
Congratulations, Anna. May God continue to bless you throughout your faith life.
