K-State wins the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl

Although I couldn’t watch the game because I was working in the ER, I’m pleased to report that Kansas State handily won their first bowl game in 11 years. They dominated Michigan all around. Jake Waters and Tyler Lockett gave glimpses of what is to come next year.

Looking forward to watching more than the highlight reel from ESPN.com. I’ve got it DVR’d and am excited to watch us win the game.

Kansas City Symphony Chorus Christmas Festival

20140108-084709.jpg
I have spent the last week in a grueling schedule of rehearsals and performances with the Kansas City Symphony Chorus. We had rehearsal every night in the week and then performances Thursday through Sunday (including 2 on both Saturday and Sunday).

Despite being completely worn out, I take great comfort in knowing that my musical offering contributed to the holiday tradition for many people. For many of them, it’s the only time they hear the Symphony and experience the grandness of the Kauffman Performing Arts Center and Helzberg Hall.

By the way, I’m on the 2nd row, 4th in from the right.

Better late than never…

So it’s been 6 weeks since my last post. Did you ever get so far behind in something that it almost seemed easier to just let it go? Every time I thought about trying to get a new post up, I just thought about all the things that I’ve not posted about.

To point – since the last post:

1. Anna, Linda, and I have all had birthdays.
2. KSU played a few more games and finished 7-5 and are going to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl
3. Several music performances by both girls and Linda
4. A few Kansas City Symphony Chorus performances
5. Visits from several family members from both sides of the family
6. Lots of incidental things that were worthy of discussing, but never were discussed

I’m going to try very hard to stay up with this blog. I know there are only a few people that actually read it, but I find it’s a good place to keep memories of the family. So – here’s to working harder on keeping this thing up to date.

You might find some posts in the near future discussing things that happened over the past 6 weeks – better late than never!

It was a frustrating first 3 quarters of football, but the 4th quarter was magical with the offense finally clicking.

It was the first win in many weeks – and it was the first time to see things go K-State’s way.

It interesting to see Sams throw for almost 100 yards, going 8-for-8; however he only had 16 yards on 13 carries. Waters, despite showing some more running abilities, threw awesome strikes at crucial moments. Lockett had 3 TD receptions, Thompson had one, and Hubert ran in for a score with 21 seconds left in the game.

It felt really good leaving Bill Snyder Family Stadium with a win. It’s been too long…

Anna performed this weekend in 4 showings of the musical “Jekyll & Hyde”. She was a member of the chorus ensemble and was also a dancer.

It was interesting seeing Anna in this role as she portrayed a dance hall girl (i.e., lady of the night). She danced and sang very well (albeit seductively) supporting the main cast.

Not having seen this musical before, I enjoyed the performance because I sat there entertained the whole time. Only a couple occasions reminded me that it was a high school offering. In fact, a couple times, I thought to myself “I wonder how much better that kid is going to be in a couple years”.

Anna had been attending after-school rehearsals for about 6 weeks and it’ll be nice to have her home for a change.

Congratulations, Anna.

Anna sings in 2013 KCMTA Fall Festival

Not only did Anna participate in the 2013 Kansas City Music Teachers Association Fall Festival as a pianist, she also sang two pieces as a vocalist. She has been taking voice lessons for the past year from one of the local voice teachers, who also happens to attend our church and is one of the fellow church musicians.

Anna sang Monteverdi: Lasciatemi morire & Anon: Have You Seen But A White Lily Grow?
