Seeing Justin Bieber

The four of us attended the Justin Bieber concert last night. Anna has had this date circled for a long time. I went along to be the good Dad.

It’s amazing how loud a stadium full of screaming girls can be. See my two react to Justin making his grand entrance.

It really was a good concert. Cody Simpson opened, followed by Carley Rae Jepsen. The girls were primed by that point, and how they weren’t hoarse by that point I’ll never know.

Now that the next morning has come, my ears have stopped ringing.

Lest you think I’m too old for loud concerts…Linda and I both agree Tim McGraw puts on a louder show – and we’ve seen him 5 times!

West Virginia falls hard to K-State

Linda and I had several friends over to watch the game. We were kinda celebrating my birthday and hoping for a solid showing from the football squad. Linda grilled burgers and brats and we had lots of chips & dip and veggies & dip. We settled in for what most of us were hoping wouldn’t be an embarrassing loss.

Collin Klein and thee rest of the offense came out humming. Arthur Brown and the rest of the defense came out pounding. Just 2 weeks ago, WVU had jumped us in the polls and were touting the likely Heisman award winner. That team was not on the field last night. K-State dominated throughout the whole game. Finally, I think K-State is getting the national respect they’ve deserved for so long. Thanks, Coach Snyder!

We whooped and hollered all evening long. I’m amazed I have a voice this morning. During halftime, we celebrated the birthday with an ice cream cake.

Cats outlive the Cyclones

The Wildcats went into Ames, Iowa and fought for a victory. The last 4 years have been close games and this one was expected to be the same.

The final score was 27-21 – and it did come down to the last drives. There were a lot of penalties on both sides; it really was an ugly game.

Now we head to Morgantown, West Virginia next week to play the #5 ranked team. This should be a good game.

For the 3rd year in a row, the Wildcats scored more than 50 points in the annual Sunflower Showdown.

The first half was actually a good ballgame with KU playing hard and using some good ol’ fake punts and fake field goals to get down the field. However, Coach Snyder cannot be outcoached and the Cats are better athletes.

The third quarter was an absolute shellacking, with multiple turnovers and a whole lot of points put up on the board. At one point, it took 3.9 plays per drive for KSU to score. It was almost too easy.

It was a wonderful day to be in Manhattan – and it was good to finally have the game hosted there as the last two were in Lawrence.

Iowa State went on the road and beat TCU; this is the next team we play – in Ames, Iowa. Here’s hoping for a good solid performance by the guys in purple on October 13.

Getting ready for “Year of Faith”

One year ago, Pope Benedict XVI decreed that October 11, 2012 will begin the “Year of Faith” throughout the Catholic Church. During this year, Catholics are called to deepen and enrich their faith lives. There will be a renewed effort to help each of us turn back to Jesus and deepen our relationship with Him. This “year” will last until November 24, 2013. You can read more about it here at the USCCB site.

October 11 marks the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council and is also the 20th anniversary of the release of the “Catechism of the Catholic Church”. Because of this, many people will be using the Catechism for study and deepening of the faith.

I will be undertaking the task of reading the entire Catechism over the entire year. In fact, it should be fairly simple because flocknote.com will send me a daily email with a bit of the Catechism for me to read. With the daily email, I will complete the entire Catechism over the year.

If you’d like to join me (and many thousands more that are already signed up), you can do so by entering your email address in the box below and click on “subscribe”. You will receive a confirmation email from flocknote.com and then, beginning October 11, you can starting reading along with me.

Sally is such a patient dog – even putting up with Emily dressing her up in a tutu.

It’s absolutely adorable watching her, hips sway back and forth as she walks with the tutu on.

We’ve said many times “Sally may not be smart, but she sure is pretty”.

It was a well-fought game throughout the whole game. It came down to 3 turnovers for Oklahoma and the Wildcats winning time of possession.

John Hubert had a great day rushing the ball. Collin Klein had solid numbers. Ryan Doerr pinned OU inside the 20 and all five of his punts. There were no big special teams scores this time, but everyone played well.

Defense rocked. Aside from the quality play of Arthur Brown, other guys stepped up to make quality tackles when they needed to be made. The defensive line put pressure on QB Jones for the whole game (which we never did last year). The turnovers were key: a Ty Zimmerman interception off of QB Jones, a fumble by QB Jones that resulted in a touchdown, and another fumble by QB Bell”dozer” at the goal line. Those were all big plays that kept momentum going our way.

I, unfortunately, did not get to watch the game as it transpired. I was working in the ER and kept busy enough the whole time that my colleagues were keeping track of the score for me. However, when I got home at 11pm, Linda and I watched the whole game. It’s always nice to fall asleep with a smile on your face.
